What is nisab for a family of five in mid-west for calculating zakat on income?

It appears that what you would like to know is the deduction amount for your family of five members, and not nisab. These are two different terms, and most people confuse these two concepts.
For a full understanding of nisab and deduction, please see the sections “Nisab” on page 46 and „Minimum Standard of Living” on page 43. Once you read these sections, please proceed to “Deduction Table” on page 93 to come up with the amount of deduction for your family.
In brief, what the deduction amount should be for a family with certain number of members can be only determined by an authorized Islamic body of that particular society. Our opinion is that in the absence of such a body, it may best be left to the zakat payer to come up with that deduction with fullness of sincerety and taqwa. To facilitate that, we have provided some guidelines, which you will find on page 93.
